The Onion | What Do You Think?: "Last week, California's Supreme Court voided about 4,000 same-sex marriages performed by the mayor of San Francisco earlier this year. What do you think?

Michael Harlson
Banker 'The court struck every single one down? Well, that makes the failure rate for gay marriages almost double that of straight marriages.'"

The New York Times > Health > Fitness & Nutrition > Top Athletes May Be Running Into a Tall Hurdle: Themselves: "'When I was competing in the early 60's, we thought our times were pretty close to the human limit,' said Phillip Whitten, the editor in chief of SwimInfo, a magazine that covers the sport. 'And now they're pretty good times for 13- and 14-year-old girls.'"

I'm reasonably libertarian.. but this is a non starter.

""The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers," a character in a Shakespeare play famously remarks.

I have a different suggestion: Make it realtors.

Here's why: Americans will spend about $1.14 trillion buying 6 million homes this year—both records. Yet the flat commissions paid to the realtors who handle the vast majority of those sales, averaging 5.1 percent, act as an enormous tax on the transaction process, taking wealth from both buyers and sellers in what for both is often the biggest financial transaction of their lives. It's true that selling a house is a complex task. But so is writing a will, and an attorney doesn't ask for 5 percent or 6 percent of your net worth as compensation."

  IOL: A Step Beyond

Students learned that Congress had two houses - the Senate for Democrats and the House for Republicans; that the US. flag had not been updated to reflect the addition of Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico to the "original" 50 states; that the federal "administrative" branch oversees the Treasury Department; and that World War Two occurred from 1938 to 1942.

There are, in fact, 50 US states - including Alaska and Hawaii, which are represented on the US. flag. Puerto Rico is a US territory, not a state. There is no "administrative" branch of the US government. The three branches are judicial, executive and legislative. World War Two was fought between 1939 and 1945, although the United States did not enter the war until 1941.

I think the interesting thing is that the article doesn't assume that the reader can spot the mistakes...
The New York Times > Business > Media & Advertising > Young Men Are Back Watching TV. But Did They Ever Leave?: "nlike those other notoriously missing items - the weapons of mass destruction - television's missing young men appear to have been found, back in front of their TV sets"

Now is that really necessary? I don't mind the nytimes being liberal.. I like it in fact. But you don't need to take digs in unrelated articles.

Just a list of interesting things I read online that my friends and family might be interested in.
